About Mouth Ulcers

As many as 20% of people suffer from mouth ulcers. Despite being so small, ulcers can be very painful and make eating, drinking and talking very painful.

But despite the fact that they are so common, the reason that these ulcers appear is still not fully understood. A common cause is an injury, for example biting the inside of the mouth by mistake. Being run-down or stressed may also cause mouth ulcers .

Ulcers affect the soft parts of the inside of your mouth: your cheeks, lips and tongue. The surface of the mouth is taken off, leaving a white circle of raw skin underneath. Sensitive nerves that lie just under the surface of the skin in the mouth are exposed, and this is why ulcers are so painful.
